Trout fishing is very similar to golfing in the way that you can't golf everything with one club, nor can you catch every fish with just one rod. If you’re fishing many different places and find it difficult to fish those tiny spring creeks with your nine weight, you may find it beneficial to pick up a fly rod more specifically geared to that kind of environment, like a three weight. Just like you can't use a sand wedge to drive the ball for a whole in one.
