The Bitterroot has cooled off substantially from the rainstorms over the weekend. Flows are still up a bit, but it's running clear. The flow above town is hanging around 1000 cfs and has been staying below 70 degrees. The upper and middle Bitterroot has been fishing very well with the cooler temps. Middle river is running pretty skinny, with most of the river running through irrigation canals. Sporadic PMD hatches and caddis in the evening have been the main hatches. Still waiting around for tricos.... the cooler weather has stalled the hatch a bit. The hatch should improve with the warmer weather in the forecast. Hoppers are still the MVP. The tan Morrish hopper was the ticket over the weekend. Along with nocturnal stones. Streamer fishing at day break, more often than not, has provided the best opportunity for BIG fish. For Streamers use sparkle minnows, Aztec buggers, Big Horn buggers, mini sex dungeons, and T&A leeches. Olive and white combinations have been best.
