The Bitterroot has been fishing very well with the cooler temps. The flow bumped up towards 900 cfs and has cooled down substantially. Middle river is running pretty skinny, with most of the river running through irrigation canals. Tricos have been hitting the water late in the morning. The fish have been on them well into the afternoon. The bruisers have been on the prowl early in the morning, but majority of the fish are waiting for it to warm up. Hoppers are still the ticket, although the trout are starting to get snotty. Smaller, natural looking hoppers have been the best. Dropping a #16 little green machine 6-8" below a beetle or ant has been automatic, when targeting pods of rising fish. More often than not, they will eat the nymph. The recent cloud cover has been great for fishing streamers. For Streamers use sparkle minnows, Aztec buggers, Big Horn buggers, mini sex dungeons, and T&A leeches. Olive and white combinations have been best.
