The Bitterroot has been fishing very well with the cooler temps. The flow has mellowed out and has been much more consistent. Tricos and baetis have been the ticket late in the morning. The fish have been on them well into the afternoon. A few hecuba are around and you can find a few fish keyed in on them. The bruisers have been on the prowl early in the morning, but majority of the fish are waiting for it to warm up. Hoppers are still getting chowed, although the trout are starting to get snotty. Smaller, natural looking hoppers have been the best. Dropping a #16 little green machine 6-8" below a beetle or ant has been automatic, when targeting pods of rising fish. More often than not, they will eat the nymph. It's quickly switching over to the fall fishing routine.
