Rock Creek Fishing Report - 11/5

Well folks, it's winter time again!  Time for streamers, midges, tiny baetis, and lots and lots of nymphs.  This wraps up our season with the falling snow.  I hope everyone has an awesome winter.  I'll get back at it in the spring.  Time for some hibernation and fly tying.

Rock Creek is in a lot better shape, water temp wise, than the other area waters. But is still very low for this time of year. FWP has not enacted the hoot owl closures up here yet, but that could change as summer stumbles on. The dry fly fishing has been very good in the mornings and evenings, but the middle afternoon has been slow in the heat. For top water morning patters, use a parachute PMD, low riding yellow sally, or small goddard caddis. Hopper/dropper rigs during the afternoon is the ticket. There are caddis hatches in the evening, and golden stones, PMDs, and yellow sallies available during the rest of the day. For dry flies, use chubby Chernobyls, stimulators, bullet head stones, half downs, parachute adams, purple hazes, elk hair caddis, yellow sallies and para wulffs. For sub surface patterns use micro stones, pheasant tails, Pat's rubber legs, San Juan Worms, caddis pupae, double beaded stones and batman nymphs.
