Rock Creek really has turned the corner over the last week or so. Flows are on the rise, but the bug activity has really ramped up. The creek is a little high, but still fish-able. Skwalas have been thick in the afternoon and the fish are starting to notice. March browns have exploded on the lower river. Fishing a single mayfly pattern again has been a lot of fun. Fishing subsurface has still been the most consistent and productive. Your usual suspects have all been working well underneath with San Juan worms, tungsten stones, purple princes, CDC pheasant tails, double beaded stones, March brown nymphs, and standard pheasant tails. For top water flies the D&D cripple and Flick's March brown have been tough to beat for the March browns. For the skwalas, use a water walker or a double dutch bug for a good searching pattern. Fishing a dry dropper in walking pace water has been productive. Throwing streamers is a option as well. Yellow streamers are can be very productive in the spring. Get it while it's good and enjoy the sunshine!
