Missouri River

The Missouri River is one of our favorite rivers east of the divide. With water characteristics very similar to the Clark Fork, but with tailwater aspects, a good day on "the Mo" can take your breath away. Only two hours out of Missoula, the Missouri is a very good option and safety net during the uncertain runoff conditions the Missoula area can be dealing with in June. The early spring streamer fishing, along with the thick midge and grey drake hatches in April, can easily make this destination a primary objective. During mid summer, post runoff, we spend much less time on the Missouri since the diversity of water in the Missoula area always has something fishing very well. We also like to avoid the crowds that the rivers east of the mountains typically see during the summer. Come fall, however, the Missouri once again becomes a great place to fish tricos to rising sippers and toss big junk to pre spawn browns.
